Product Care and Use

CERAMIC

Ceramic Dinnerware & Serveware (Bella Bianca, Bella Natale, Burano, Finezza, Giuletta, Graffiata, Merletto, Medici, Medici Festivo, Natale) Our ceramic dinnerware and serveware collections are dishwasher safe on the low-heat, air-dry cycle, using non-abrasive detergents and are microwave safe.  Bella Bianca and Bella Natale are oven safe.

Do not over load the dishwasher.

Since microwave ovens vary we recommend using a mitt to remove items because some items may be hot.  Adults should assist young children. Please only use items to warm food and to not cook in them, 1-2 mins max is recommended.

Ceramic Serveware (Scavo) Chargers are hand wash only, the eating surface is glazed and food safe however because of the exposed edges they are labeled not food safe.  All serving pieces are food safe.

Decorative Ceramics  (Burano, Giulietta, Medici, Medici Festivo, Natale) Many of our decorative ceramic pieces are finished with faux cracks, distressing, drips, color variations and/or fine lines in the glaze.  These qualities are intentional and desirable, as they reflect the genuine hand-made quality of the piece. Decorative garden containers should be brought indoors during freezing temperatures.  Liners are recommended. To clean, wipe with a damp cloth.

Ceramic Bakeware (Bella Bianca) Before first use, submerge the baker and lid (if applicable) in water for 12 hours.  Always place baker in a cold oven and allow it to heat gradually (max 450). Always allow baker to heat and cool gradually-avoid and sudden temperature changes.

PEWTER

Cleaning
Our pewter is not dishwasher safe. Please wash your pewter by hand or else you risk discoloration. Mix warm water in a bowl with a few drops of dishwashing soap. Wet a microfiber cloth or sponge and gently wipe away dust and grime. Remove any soapy residue. If more cleaning is needed, hand wash under warm water. Do not soak. Dry the pewter completely once done cleaning. Ceramic items with pewter should only be handwashed.

Polishing
Pewter tarnishes very slowly unlike silver and requires little maintenance. However, if you'd like to add more shine or lighten up the color, you can choose to polish your pewter. Never use silver polish on pewter as it can damage the surface. Instead use a pewter polishing product such as Hagerty or Brasso. We personally love Cape Cod polishing products! For the DIYers you can make a polishing paste using a cup of distilled white vinegar and one and a half cups of flour. Apply the polish to a clean microfiber cloth and buff thoroughly in a circular motion with light pressure. Use another clean microfiber cloth to buff again, removing the excess polish. Depending on the polish you may or may not need to rinse and dry.

General Upkeep
Regularly dust your pewter display pieces to remove surface oil. Pewter is a soft metal and is prone to scratching, please use protective measures when handling and storing. Do not expose pewter to high heat near stovetops or ovens.

GLASS

Platinum and Gold-gilded Items (Vetro Gold & Platinum, Baroque Gold, Volterra Platinum) Our gilded pieces should never be placed in the dishwasher, oven or microwave.  Because of the delicate nature of handmade glass, we recommend not pouring boiling water into the items or placing them in the freezer. Glass items are hand wash with a non-abrasive detergent to ensure the beauty of the piece.  We recommend the use of a soft jewelry cloth to buff any tarnish that occurs naturally on our gilded pieces.

Glass (Cero, Sofia) These glassware pieces are hand wash only.

Pewter & Glass (Anna, Animale, Donatello Charger & Salad, Giorgio, Giovanna, Milano, Lucia, Roma, Taverna, Tavola, Tesoro, and Verona. All of our pewter & glass items are handmade of Italian pewter and either mouth-blown glass or crystal.  Mouth-blown glass can be irregular in shape and may contain small bubbles and imperfections, which is expected.  The pewter and glass are fused together with a special clamping machine and/or industrial epoxy.  All pewter & glass items should be washed by hand, These items should not be used in the oven, microwave, or freezer.  Our pewter & glass drinkware collections should not be submerged in warm water to soak but should be washed individually and dried. Please contact our Customer Care Center for more information about our glass replacement program, retail@arteitalica.com.

FABRIC

Linen Linen becomes softer and more luxurious after each wash. Wash linen on low temperatures in lukewarm or cold water. Use the gentle machine cycle and a mild detergent to protect the fibers. For a natural look and feel, we like to hang the linen item to dry until it is almost dry, then throw it in the dryer with no heat for the final dry. For a more formal look, hang your linen item to dry until completely dry, then iron with full steam to get the crisp look.
